Umera Ahmed is a great name of the Urdu popular fiction. Unlike many other writers, Umera Ahmed made a choice to write popular fiction instead of the literature. Her motto is to reach as large an audience as possible. She knows that it is possible only through the popular fiction and not through the literature. Actually, in Pakistan the audience of the Urdu literature is very small in number. Therefore, it is not a surprise that a writer with such a large caliber chose the popular fiction over literature.

The Urdu stories and novels of Umera Ahmed are excellent in diction. This has made many people in her audience to wonder that may be Umera Ahmeds education is relevant to Urdu literature. However, it is not true. In fact, Umera Ahmed has done masters in the English literature.

She lives in Sialkot. She got her education from the Murray College, Sialkot. By profession, Umera Ahmed has also been a teacher along with being a writer. She is a teacher at Army Public School, Sialkot and she teaches English to O level students of grade 9 and 10.

How Umera Ahmed started writing in Urdu is a very interesting story. Umera Ahmeds handwriting of Urdu was very poor. In her university, she thought of writing diary every day in Urdu to improve her handwriting. Gradually instead of writing diary of her own accounts, she started to write diaries of two imaginary people, Kashaf and Zaroon, who were class fellows with clashing ideas in a Masters class of International relations. Over the time of two years, Umeras writing improved. Moreover, those two diaries of imaginary people became an interesting Urdu novel. Umera sent that novel for publishing and it was published very soon. Umera Ahmed recalls that since then none of her Urdu stories ever had to wait for publication.

There are some specific areas in which the stories of Umera Ahmed are very powerful. Umera Ahmed is an expert of writing on International affairs and bureaucracy. Umera Ahmeds first novel was on international affairs. Then she wrote an excellent novel on the bureaucracy of Pakistan called Amer Bail. The Amer bail is a parasite plant and this is exactly what the bureaucracy of Pakistan is. Initially Umera also tried to write on the lives of the people belonging to Armed forces of Pakistan and their families. However, those stories had research mistakes and they were not very well received.

After the bureaucracy, current affairs, and international relations, Umera Ahmeds interest tilted towards producing Urdu novels on religion. She does not preach about the religion in her novels. However, the factor of religious mindedness is very strong in her stories and novels. Some of her stories with very strong religious undertones are Meri Zaat Zara e Benishan, Man o Salwa and Peer e Kamil (s.a.w.)

These days Umera Ahmed is not writing stories and novels for the popular fiction digests. Her focus is to produce stories and scripts for the TV now. Therefore, in her quest to reach a large audience Umera Ahmed is now a script and storywriter for the television.

The novel is an indicator of the development of a language. The Urdu novel started very late when compared to the poetry of the Urdu language.

Nevertheless, the trend of novel writing in the Urdu language picked up pace very quickly.

With the passage of time, the Urdu novel has evolved, just as the society. The contemporary Urdu novels usually revolve around the following themes and topics.

Women rights

The Indian subcontinent has always been a male dominated society. There hasn”t been any time or era when this region has seen female dominance or equality. So naturally the women rights are the theme of many novels.

Some courageous writers write about the rights of the widows too. This is because the widows are maltreated in this society most of the times. The remarrying is also not encouraged and thus the widows end up without having someone to protect them.

Feudal culture

Feudal culture is now a tragic problem of Pakistan. It is a shame for Pakistan that India and Bangladesh eradicated their feudal lords long ago. The family, especially the joint-family system is very strong in the Indian subcontinent. So the stories of many writers revolve around large families. The novels have a lot of characters, all belonging to a single family. The writers try to inculcate family values and try to encourage cousin marriages.

Current Affairs and political situation

The current political situation of Pakistan is abysmal. So the sensitive writers” minds are bound to get affected by it. As a result they write novels addressing different current and political issues. For example the bipolar society of today and the suicide bombing are two hot topics for novels.

Life in bureaucracy and armed forces

The Urdu writers tend to get too influenced from the bureaucracy and armed forces. As a result their stories often revolve around the bureaucrats and the people from the armed forces. Usually the armed forces personnel are shown too good, too caring and too patriotic. However it is a sad fact that the novels about the people from bureaucracy and the armed forces often paint a wrong picture of these two important institutions of the country.

It is a sad fact that the Urdu novels lack the romance, technological advancements, tourism and science fiction as their subject, although they are highly required in these times. May be our society is still not ready for it. However the topics, themes and stories of the contemporary Urdu novels indicate profusely that we are a third world country.

ISHQ Telugu Movie Review

Nitin is back after a break, he has come back with a romantic comedy trying his luck with some new strategies and added a new look to his character. It’s yet to see that his new strategies will work or not.

Nitin acting as Rahul, who is happy in his life is attracted by Nithya menon acting as Priya, who is his co passenger on a flight. As usual in all films things happen unexpectedly, they fight with each other, and after a while they become good friends. As the time pass on they both fall in love with each other, as every film has a routine twist there is a situation when Priya’s brother enter in to the seen, Ajay acting as Shiva. In the past Rahul and Shiva had a fight, keeping all those in mind Shiva say no to their love.

This film is directed by Vikram Kumar targeting youth (youngsters); the first half of the movie is expected to be more than expectation. And the second half of the movie is all about a conflict which has to be watched.

Some scenes are excellent in the second half of the movie, and the rest of the movie is normal with out any turning points (surprises). The credit goes to Vikram Kumar who has tried a routine story in a different direction; he has a great command on the subject but lost in some parts of the movie.

The movie is quite good but looks like the director Vikram Kumar has dragged the movie up to some extent, but this would be an average movie which is not entirely an entertainer. The director has tried a lot to keep the audience on the screen trying to entertain all the way till the end. While most of them think this a time pass entertainer, if there would be some more comedy it would have definitely helped both the director as well as Nithin.

Nitin performance has improved a lot with an ease in his body and a confidence in his acting. While Nithya menon is a good actress, who had done a quite impressive job in the movie. Ajay has done a good job too, with a dazzling character next to Nithya as a brother; his skills can give him a good opportunity as an actor.

Music was done by Anup, who has scored some good music in the past as well and has a great career as a music director. His Lachamma song is rocking in the public. A magnificent Cinematography by PC Sriram who did a wonderful job, he is usually called as PC Sir. Production, Editing and the Dialogues are good. Director Vikram Kumar is really a talented guy, who can make wonders with a solid script.
