Jacksonville Humane Society and Vetter Software Announce Partnership

Post from http://www.danieluk.net

Santa Clara, California (PRWEB) May 11, 2015

Today Vetter Software announced that it will donate its leading cloud practice management solution to The Jacksonville Humane Society, a no-kill animal adoption facility, education center and low-cost, high-quality animal hospital located in Jacksonville, Florida, in support of JHS’s mission to bring about an end to the killing of abandoned and orphaned shelter animals.

“As a nonprofit, we strive to make veterinary care accessible and affordable to anyone in the community,” said Denise Deisler, Executive Director of The Jacksonville Humane Society. “Not only did Vetter Software meet our core technology needs, they embraced our mission. By donating their services, Vetter Software helps to further that mission and allows us to reallocate the funds we would have spent on technology to helping animals in need.”

“A core part of our mission is to help improve the health of the world’s animals,” said Sagi Solomon, Founder and CEO of Vetter Software. “One way that we live that mission is by providing highly discounted or free services to non-profit organizations in support of their efforts to provide better care for the animals in their care. We’re proud to support JHS in its efforts to provide high-quality care to animals in need, and look forward to working with other non-profit organizations to help achieve their missions.”

The search for a new practice management system was prompted by a strategic, organization-wide shift to a cloud platform. The shift to the cloud offers JHS more flexibility than on-site software and allows for access to medical records from anywhere. “JHS was looking for a comprehensive, consistent, user-friendly software that was cloud compatible to help manage our hospital,” added Denise. “With an onsite server, we often experienced periods of downtime and loss of productivity which was frustrating both for our clients and staff alike. After evaluating several solutions, we selected Vetter Software to maximize productivity and minimize downtime due to server issues.” Vetter Software will replace Intravet as JHS’s practice management software.

About The Jacksonville Humane Society

The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) operates a full service, low cost animal hospital that is open to the public. We have 3 full time and 1 part time veterinarians and a full staff to support them. Last year, the hospital saw over 28,000 clients and provided more than $ 500,000 of free or low cost medical care to shelter animals and the public.

In addition to the animal hospital, JHS also operates a shelter that cares for more than 6,000 animals each year. Together with our partners, JHS has helped Jacksonville to become one of the largest cities in the United States to achieve and maintain no kill status. This means that 90% or more of animals who enter shelters, citywide, make it out alive. JHS and our partners have been recognized as a model community for achieving no kill by notable national organizations such as PetSmart Charities, Best Friends Animal Society, the ASPCA and Petco Foundation.

In addition to helping to find animals homes, JHS also acts a community resource by annually providing:

5,000+ children with humane education

3,000+ families facing financial crisis who are at risk of surrendering their pet with resources such as free medical care, temporary boarding and pet food and supplies, so that they don’t have lose their beloved pets.

5,000 + animals with free and low cost spay neuter services

Volunteer opportunities for 2,000+ people

Digital-Tutors Releases New Introductory Tutorials for Maya 2016, ZBrush 4R7 and Houdini Fluids

Post from http://www.danieluk.net

Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) May 06, 2015

Digital-Tutors, a Pluralsight company and provider of the world’s leading creative e-learning resource, today announced the release of three highly anticipated tutorials for Maya 2016, ZBrush 4R7 and Houdini Fluids. To celebrate, all three tutorials will be available for free until May 31st, 2015.

Introduction to Maya 2016’s ten hours of training takes a deep look at the powerful 3D animation application, including some of the new features and UI improvements. Upon completion, the viewer will not only have a strong grasp of Maya, but a finished project featuring a spacecraft that has been modeled, textured and animated before its final render.

Users new to ZBrush will find a great intro to the latest version of this extensive sculpting and painting application in Introduction to ZBrush 4R7. In this tutorial, Digital-Tutors’ lead 3D modeling instructor, Justin Marshall, walks viewers through key features that will enable them to create and manipulate geometry, painting and much more in over four hours of detailed training.

With the new hire of full-time tutor, Jon Moncrief, Houdini fans can expect to see a lot more Houdini training on the site. The renewed focus aims to help artists and studios around the world unleash the possibilities of Houdini and make the application approachable to all. This mandate kicks off with the new Introduction to Fluid Simulations in Houdini tutorial, which provides an overview of the basic concepts used to create and control fluid simulations, as well as an exploration of particle fluid shelf tools and how networks created by those tools can help artists gain control of their simulations.

“These three tutorials are some of our more popular tutorials every year and important to the continuing training for artists, schools and studios,” said Kyle Green, Digital-Tutors’ director of creative content. “New introductory Maya 2016 and ZBursh content will help artists quickly get up to speed on new workflows and features. Our increased attention to Houdini is beyond exciting for the entire company as this will help so many artists make the leap to this robust application.”

Safeguard Scientifics Announces Fourth Quarter and Full-Year 2014 Financial Results

Post from http://www.danieluk.net

Wayne, PA (PRWEB) March 05, 2015

Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. (NYSE:SFE) today announced fourth quarter and full-year 2014 financial results. For the three months ended December 31, 2014, Safeguard’s net loss was $ 15.1 million, or $ 0.73 per share, compared to net income of $ 24.0 million, or $ 1.10 per share for the same period in 2013. For the year ended December 31, 2014, Safeguard’s net loss was $ 5.1 million, or $ 0.25 per share, compared to a net loss of $ 35.5 million, or $ 1.66 per share for the same period in 2013.

“In 2014, we executed against our plan to achieve and maintain consistency in the amount of capital we deployed and realized; and we returned a portion of the capital generated to our shareholders by executing a significant stock repurchase,” said Stephen T. Zarrilli, President and CEO at Safeguard. “In 2014, Safeguard deployed $ 43.3 million in six new partner companies—InfoBionic, Propeller Health, Syapse, Transactis, Trice Medical and WebLinc. We also deployed $ 26.6 million in follow-on capital to support the growth of ten partner companies in which we already had an interest at the beginning of the year. In addition, Safeguard realized aggregate initial cash proceeds of $ 81.3 million from the sale of our interests in four partner companies—Alverix, Crescendo Bioscience, NuPathe and Sotera Wireless. Lastly, Safeguard undertook a share repurchase program, repurchasing 1,194,313 shares of the Company’s common stock in open market transactions at prices ranging from $ 19.54 to $ 22.18 per share for an aggregate cost of $ 25.0 million.”

“At December 31, 2014, our roster of partner companies totaled 24, including eleven healthcare and thirteen technology companies. The cost of our interests in these companies totaled $ 238.1 million, whereas the carrying value of those partner companies at year-end was $ 149.8 million,” said Jeffrey B. McGroarty, Senior Vice President and CFO at Safeguard. “Our net cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at year-end 2014 totaled $ 106.0 million, after subtracting the total carrying value of debt outstanding of $ 50.6 million. Overall, our financial strength, flexibility and liquity remain the foundation of Safeguard’s evergreen business model. Safeguard remains well-positioned to continue to deploy capital in promising early- and growth-stage healthcare and technology companies.”

Zarrilli concluded, “As we embark on 2015, we remain focused and disciplined. We have set out the following goals and objectives: to increase the total number of our partner companies to approximately 30; to realize continued growth in partner company aggregate revenue; to deploy $ 35 million to $ 50 million in new partner companies; to deploy $ 30 million to $ 50 million in follow-on funding for current partner companies; and to realize a minimum of two profitable exits.”

AGGREGATE PARTNER COMPANY REVENUE

Aggregate partner company revenue for 2014 was $ 349 million, up from $ 284 million in 2013 and $ 201 million in 2012 for those same companies. These figures do not include new partner companies in which Safeguard initially deployed capital in 2014.

For 2015, aggregate partner company revenue is projected to be between $ 440 million and $ 460 million, which includes revenue for all partner companies in which Safeguard had an interest at January 1, 2015. Aggregate revenue for the same partner companies for prior years was $ 368 million for 2014 and $ 299 million for 2013.

Aggregate revenue for all years reflects revenue on a net basis. Revenue data for certain partner companies pertain to periods prior to Safeguard’s involvement with those companies and are based solely on information provided to Safeguard by those companies. Safeguard reports the revenue of its equity and cost-method partner companies on a one-quarter lag basis.

Market Opportunity — The OSA diagnostic market in the U.S. is estimated to be approximately $ 4 billion and is growing more than 15% annually. Only 3 million sufferers in the U.S. have been diagnosed to date, out of an estimated 40 million moderate to severe OSA sufferers.

Operating Highlights — AccuSom is currently covered for more than 150 million commercially insured U.S. lives. NovaSom is accredited by the Joint Commission as an Ambulatory Care Sleep Diagnostic Center & Telehealth Provider and is classified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (“CMS”) as an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility.

Propeller Health, Inc. (Madison, WI — Initial Revenue Stage)

One of the first mobile platforms with FDA clearance, Propeller Health combines sensors, mobile apps and predictive analytics to monitor and engage patients, increase adherence and encourage effective self-management. Propeller Health partners with integrated delivery systems and health plans seeking new solutions to improve quality, strengthen care teams and reduce the cost of care for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”), the fifth and sixth most expensive diseases in the U.S., respectively. Safeguard deployed $ 9.0 million in Propeller Health in August 2014 and has a 25% primary ownership position.

Market Opportunity — Asthma and COPD currently cost payers and patients in the U.S. more than $ 100 billion annually. By 2020, the CDC estimates that the cost of medical care for adults in the U.S. with COPD alone will increase 53% to more than $ 90 billion.

Putney is a rapidly growing pet pharmaceutical company focused on developing high-quality, generic prescription medicines for pets. Safeguard has deployed $ 14.9 million in Putney since September 2011 and has a 28% primary ownership position.

Market Opportunity — According to IMS Health, 86% of all human prescriptions in the U.S. are filled with a generic, yet very few generics exist for drugs prescribed for pets. Analysis of FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (“CVM”) approvals reveals that 91% of FDA-approved drugs for pets have no generic equivalent. The overall size of the pet pharmaceutical market is significant. Packaged Facts, in its April 2014 report entitled, “Pet Medications in the U.S.” stated that the U.S. retail sales of pet medications reached $ 8 billion in 2013 and projected that the market will grow to more than $ 10 billion in 2018, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 5%.

Operating Highlights — In 2014, Putney received FDA CVM approval for four generic prescription medicines for pets, including Putney Carprofen Chewable Tablets (generic of Rimadyl® Chewable Tablets), Putney Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride (generic of Dexdomitor®), Putney Carprofen Sterile Injectable Solution (generic of Rimadyl® Injectable), and Putney Meloxicam Solution for Injection (generic of Metacam® Solution for Injection). As a result, Putney is the only company selling FDA approved generics for all three dosage forms of carprofen products, and is the only company selling Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride, the first and only generic of Dexdomitor®.

Quantia is a pioneer in physician engagement. Quantia has spent nearly a decade building an active online community—QuantiaMD—where 225,000 physicians—about one in three nationwide—interact with experts and collaborate to achieve the best outcomes for their patients. By blending expert content, social networking, and game mechanics, Quantia has created an environment that physicians want to explore. The company’s clients represent large health systems and life sciences companies that tap into Quantia’s community to boost engagement among target physicians and inspire change at the point of care. Safeguard has deployed $ 12.5 million in Quantia since August 2013 and has a 42% primary ownership position.

Market Opportunity — Quantia currently generates revenue through three channels: (1) pharmaceutical companies that need to reach and engage healthcare professionals to increase market share; (2) hospital systems that need to engage physicians to achieve clinical, operational and financial objectives; and (3) medical technology companies that need to increase brand awareness among physicians and drive qualified leads. The scalable and secure Quantia Physician Engagement Platform has an annual addressable market estimated to be between $ 1 billion and $ 2 billion.

Operating Highlights — In 2014, Quantia launched its Physician Engagement Platform for health systems, a product designed to help those organizations better engage and learn from their physicians to improve clinical, financial and operational performance. Quantia was selected by Post Acute Medical, one of the nation’s leading providers of long-term acute care services, to drive adoption of new clinical protocols and better support its physicians. In addition, Quantia announced a partnership with Trinity Health, one of the nation’s largest healthcare systems, to improve patient care by bringing together physicians across Trinity Health’s 20-state network to share knowledge, advice and clinical expertise quickly and conveniently.

Syapse, Inc. (Palo Alto, CA — Initial Revenue Stage)

Syapse is a software company that enables healthcare providers to deploy precision medicine programs. Syapse’s Precision Medicine Data Platform integrates complex genomic and clinical data with care pathways and medical knowledge bases, providing clinicians with actionable insights to enable diagnosis and treatment. In addition, it enables longitudinal tracking of patients over time, creating expansive sources of real world evidence that will be used to power learning health systems across networks of affiliated health providers. The platform integrates data from electronic medical records, molecular testing labs, imaging and billing systems, and is agnostic to the data source or system. Safeguard deployed $ 5.8 million in Syapse in June 2014 and has a 27% primary ownership position.

Market Opportunity — Syapse’s technology provides integral software infrastructure for any healthcare provider utilizing genomics, molecular, and high-complexity clinical data in the care of their patients. While Syapse’s platform can be applied to any disease area, early customers have focused on oncology. United Health Group estimates that the annual addressable U.S. market for genetic and molecular diagnostic testing will reach $ 15 billion to $ 25 billion by 2021, while MarketsandMarkets reports that the global healthcare information technology market was $ 40.4 billion in 2012 and will grow to $ 56.7 billion by 2017.

Operating Highlights — In 2014, Syapse raised a $ 10 million Series B financing led by Safeguard. Syapse is using the proceeds to expand sales, marketing and client services, as well as to further accelerate product development. Subsequent to the financing, Syapse announced the expansion of its customer solutions team to support its rapidly growing client base of healthcare provider organizations and the opening of an office in Philadelphia, Pa. In addition, Syapse partnered with Sarah Cannon, the global cancer enterprise of Hospital Corporation of America, to launch a precision oncology clinical service collaboration. The software-based service is designed to support Sarah Cannon’s efforts to make tumor genome profiling a key component of the care continuum for the more than 100,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients seen annually across its network of cancer centers throughout the United States and United Kingdom.

Trice Medical™ (King of Prussia, PA — Development Stage)

Trice Medical is a diagnostics company focused on micro invasive technologies. Trice Medical has pioneered fully integrated camera-enabled needle technologies that provide a clinical solution that is optimized for use in the physician’s office. The company’s first product is mi-eye™, which is a fully-disposable, single-use, streamlined visualization device that uses a standard 14-gauge needle with an integrated camera and light source to perform a diagnostic arthroscopy. Trice Medical’s mission is to provide more immediate and definitive patient care, eliminating the false reads associated with current indirect modalities and significantly reducing the overall cost to the healthcare system. Safeguard has deployed $ 5.0 million in Trice Medical since July 2014 and has a 32% primary ownership position.

Market Opportunity — In the U.S., it is estimated that more than 32 million magnetic resonance imaging (“MRI”) exams are conducted each year, of which approximately 8 million are orthopedic in nature. Private insurers, which cover approximately 80% of all sports medicine injuries, often pay an average of $ 1,500 to $ 2,000 per MRI—all of which is paid to the facility that owns the MRI and an independent radiologist, not the orthopedic surgeon who is treating the patient. As a result, Trice Medical’s addressable market opportunity is approximately $ 15 billion.

Operating Highlights — In 2014, Trice Medical raised an $ 11.6 million Series B financing, led by Safeguard. Proceeds from the funding are supporting the company’s efforts to commercialize and market mi-eye. In conjunction with the financing, Trice Medical named Jeffrey F. O’Donnell Sr. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. O’Donnell previously served as the company’s Executive Chairman since 2011. Subsequently, Trice Medical received FDA 510(k) clearance for mi-eye and is targeting commercialization in the summer of 2015.

Kids Animation Software - Yes, Even Kids Can Make Animations

Post from http://www.danieluk.net

Children are naturally inclined to the world of dreams and in this world of technology their dreams comes to be true in the form of animations. Children get so inspired by animations that they decide to create an animation of their own. In the market there are many software specially designed for children. They can create a 2D or 3D animation. But 3D is a little complex than the former.

Choosing kids animation software

There are various facts that are to be kept in mind when choosing kids animation software. Some of them are:

Since children are inexperienced in this field of animation, it would be wiser to buy them an inexpensive software

Do not allow then to jump to higher skills. First train them in the basics and give a strong foundation and later you can allow them complex ones

The basic concept should be crystal clear

Make sure that the kid is using a program that is meant for kids.

Listed is some of the best kids animation software.

Xtranormal

It is one of the best software in the market for children. The process of animation starts with the selection of background. Later the child can select as to the number of characters required. A script for the animation is supplied in another window and there is a separate option to control the movement of the characters. A speech synchronizer is available to vary the pitch of the character according to the child’s need. Language ranges from American to British to Australian.

Alice

Alice is best software in the market. It can be said that this software is an introduction for children those who wish to learn animation as this teaches the very basics of animations. The 3D effect can be created by simply dropping the required icons. School students and college students are known to use this software for their study materials. The easy to use characteristics and easy user interface makes it to be loved by novice as well as professionals. There is another version of Alice known as Storytelling Alice which is an updated version of Alice.

Stop Motion

This is old fashioned software that was used by students in school to manipulate objects from their environment. Stop motion utilizes capture of images and then running them in a sequence giving an illusion of animation. A child can draw his imagination in sequence and later with the help of Stop motion software he can animate it.

2D animation for kids

2D animation is much easier than 3D animation as it is within two dimensions. Some of the known 2D animation software is:

Toon boom

Story board

Animation-ish

The instructions regarding the function of the above mentioned software can be obtained from the respective websites of the animation software where a step by step procedure will be provided.

And after the kid has gained enough experience it would be better to give him more challenges by admitting him in a reputed animation school where his appetite is satisfied.

Appliedinfo Partners Announces Renewal of Enterprise Content Development Capability for US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC)

Post from http://www.danieluk.net

Somerset, NJ (PRWEB) November 24, 2014

Appliedinfo Partners, Inc. (AIP), through its D2 TEAM-Sim (D2) division, announced the recent renewal of its acquisition of enterprise licensing and services agreement with The Office of the TRADOC Capability Manager for The Army Distributed Learning Program (TCM-TADLP). D2 was competitively selected to continue its partnership to provide the US Army and other DoD training and development proponents with the cloud-based ability to design, develop and deploy Distributed Learning (DL) content, up to level IV Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI), using its Distributed Instruction Framework (DIF®), referred to by the TCM as the Enterprise Content Development Capability (ECDC), powered by DIF. ECDC was awarded a Certificate of Networthiness (CoN) in July of 2014, which allows it to be hosted on the Army’s Non-secure Internet Protocol (IP) Router Network (NIPRNet). Some Army Schools utilizing this technology include: Army National Guard; Fires Center of Excellence; Training Brain Operations Center; National Simulation Center; Engineering School; Cyber Center of Excellence; Intelligence Center of Excellence; Combined Arms Center – Training; Maneuver Center of Excellence; Maneuver Support Center of Excellence; Sustainment Center of Excellence; Aviation Center of Excellence; Soldier Support Institute.

Other Government agencies wishing to acquire DIF licenses and services may do so through D2′s GSA IT 70 schedule # GS-35F-429BA.

Background:

The TCM-TADLP supports the use of in-house training and education developers, but needed an enterprise authoring tool and environment to ensure global development of content that met Army standards, specifications, and playability on Army platforms. D2 originally entered an open competition and was awarded a contract on June 27, 2013. D2′s solution allows the export of DL content to Army systems such as the Army Learning Management System (ALMS) and Enterprise Life-long Learning Center (ELLC) content management system. The DL authoring environment provides an intuitive, user-friendly and browser-based solution that enables the cataloging, maintenance and reuse of media assets and course materials. It also allows seamless integration of images, video, 2D and 3D graphics, HTML5 interactions, NGRAIN® and UNITY® game-based simulations to create an engaging training experience. The support of pre- and post-test evaluations, embedded knowledge checks and an Event Driven capability ensures learner mastery of ECDC-developed training. ECDC supports the implementation of the Army Learning Model 2015 toward a learner-centric approach to training.

Other ECDC Features:

Training and education developers with an intermediate working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of tools will be comfortable working in the ECDC environment. It supports an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop graphical user interface (GUI) to simplify course development. For interactive multimedia, it accommodates the integration of previously-developed content into new courses. D2 continues the platform hosting of the software through a secure URL in addition to Common Access Card (CAC) access through TCM-ATIS (Army Training Information Systems) .mil networks to support higher levels of sensitive training material. This means training and education developers do not have to download software or players to access the authoring environment. Once course development is complete, the published SCORM-conformant files can be uploaded to repositories such as the Central Army Registry or the Training Development Capability. Content can be developed once, and published to multiple platforms, including desktop and mobile devices.

About Appliedinfo Partners, Inc. (AIP):

D2 TEAM-Sim is a division of AIP, a privately-held, woman-owned small business founded in 1990. AIP is a leading developer of interactive training and communications solutions for government agencies, large corporations and healthcare companies. How to 3D Animate - Software For Animations

Post from http://www.danieluk.net

As a first time you will save financially to learn how to 3d animate through an application video training guide. You will learn, it’s the natural path, just pay attention and commit yourself.

The only challenge you will have then, is to understand the 3D animation operations and master the software. Take advantage of the training guides set in place, very valuable tools to your future animation master pieces.

Before even attempting an animation project, you will have to decide what part of 3D animation is appealing to you, as the nature and scope of this field is beyond ones wildest imagination. Start with basic, like 3D modelling using meshing.

Even if you have only had a slight interest in animation but you cannot place your desire, your desire will explode into a massive flame when you get a 3D animation program. This will happen by you watching the real time video step by step training and manual instructions, and then…..only a matter of time when you get a bite and find something you love specifically about 3D animation and you will run.

It is really difficult to explain, it is something you have to live and discover yourself. As for the pro’s out there, they would not be reading this as they know how to 3D animate, but they will be on the look out for a better more advanced animation application.

Animation is the master teaser of time and patience, they are always looking for a quicker and better way, as time is the most valuable asset an animator has. Nobody is going to wait 20 years for the next animation movie. Well, we will exclude Wallace and Gromit , that is a master animation done by hand with know fancy software. These are the people who design the software.

Ok so you want to know how too 3d animate, mmmmmmmmmm where do we start?

You need an object to do 3d animation, this is not 2D still images. What you do is you make a model object, let say a face and you manipulate the object by using what they call messing, then fill it with colour (this is a software procedure, by hand you will have to make a physical object, in most cases plastercine) once you have the face manipulated you then take picture or vide to produce a sequence of object as video or image files to create then illusion of movement and you then, run it through a time line and play it back, and you have created a 3D animation.

It does not stop there you especially if you want your model face to talk, or even smile, how about frown?

Now on this point this is why animators these days use software, and many of them simply are masters of the software with all the fancy features, like lighting, shading, drawing etc. It is really fun when you develop the 3D animating bug.

The only obstacle is selecting the right program for the job, well teaching, remember become the student and master the software. Just ensure that there is professional training, aids, support and guides in place.. No! freebies is not the real deal, the real deal is investment not a lot, in fact some are less than $ 80, that might get you 2 days in an animation studio training facility if you lucky.

Thank you for reading how to 3d animate.

Up for it.
