Most bookstores have many regular customers. This creates a problem, as how many times can you sell The Da Vinci Code to the same person? It has been on the New York Times bestseller list for over two years, which is indeed admirable, but people are looking for some variety in the titles they see time after time when they go book shopping.
PageFree Publishing, Inc., one of the most innovative small presses in the business, has come up with a new way for bookstore owners and managers, customers and authors to join forces with their exciting new Hidden Treasure Books ( http://www.hiddentreasurebooks.com ). They are offering the cream of the crop from their books, which have been showing up on a limited basis, in many bookstores across the country. Now it is time to utilize the high-tech era in which we live.
The selected books will cover many genres, both fiction and non-fiction, and a bookstore manager will be able to go to the CD version of a catalog and search by regional authors, titles set in their area, by genre, by special occasions, and it will include a full chapter excerpt (instead of a 50 word blurb which really doesn’t tell you much) and will replace the old flat-fold catalog that takes hours to browse through.
For readers, this is equally good news. If they are in the mood to find a new cozy mystery but they don’t know what’s available, this will allow the bookstore personnel to point them to some alternative selections they might never find otherwise. If they have someone’s birthday coming up and they would like a nice book of poetry, a quick click of the computer button will point them to the offerings. If they have a friend who is planning a trip to Scotland or France, they can give them a book to take with them to read on the plane trip to get them in the mood for their upcoming adventures.
And for authors, this is wonderful news. If you have a book out, but nobody knows about it except your family and a few close friends, PageFree is prepared to give you the marketing help you have so craved but haven’t found. Yes, bookstores all over the country are looking for something new to offer their customers. If you have it, and you have been published somewhere besides PageFree Publishing but you own the rights to your book and you are tired of it sitting there never moving and your royalty checks are almost non-existent, or if you are an author who is looking for a place where you can actually see even your first book succeed, this is just what you’ve been waiting for.
There will be two different levels of inclusion for participating authors. The first will be the Basic Program, which will get your book listed on the CD that will go out to hundreds (eventually several thousand) retailers. In the
Expanded Presentation, representatives from PageFree Publishing will phone retailers about your books, will arrange booksignings in your area, submit press releases to appropriate regional papers, negotiate with non-bookstore retailers who will match your book to places that would have a particular interest in it (for example, a bed-and-breakfast mystery to various bed and breakfast places or a book on pet care or funny pet stories to pet stores and veterinarian offices), and in some cases even seek corporate bulk purchases. In essence, the Expanded Presentation provides the author with the Publicist they could never before afford.
As a PageFree author, I am thrilled to have signed up for my new book, Old Habits Die Hard (the 3rd Patrick and Grace Mystery) as the very first Hidden Treasure Book. As the launch author for this new venture, I have been authorized by PageFree Publishing to offer a special $ 75.00 discount to all new PageFree authors ( through May 1, 2006) to be included on the very first CD that will be sent to bookstores all across the nation. You can sign up at http://www.hiddentreasurebooks.com . Just be sure to mention the code words, “Smith discount.”
There is a place to sign up at the above listed site, http://www.hiddentreasurebooks.com whether you are a bookseller or an author, and if you are a reader, watch for the Hidden Treasure Book display at your favorite bookstore. If they don’t know about it, please tell them to check it out. And don’t settle for buying a copy of The Da Vinci Code (or any other same old title), just because it is finally out in paperback and all you have is the hard cover copy.
