From that first grain of sand begins the process of promotion– evolving into a complete marketing plan which holds the potential to deliver the shimmer of luminous light from both the Publishers’ and Authors’ names.
The scope of marketing for Publishers and Authors is as vast as the seas where oyster shells nestle within swaying currents. Marketing holds the potential to yield pearls from a solid shell of creativity.
The promotion pearl is created from the endless potential, through the many marketing avenues, emerging from the depth and diversity of the swirling seas called the Publishing Industry. To sail these seas requires grit and determination. Promotion is the glint of sunlight dancing from the depths of creativity. It is a necessary part of success for both the Publisher and the Author, if profits from publication of any book are to be forthcoming.
The Publisher and the Author work as a united team. The responsibility for promotion does not rest solely on either shoulder. Promotion of published books belongs to, and is imperative to, both the Publisher and the Author.
The most important grain of sand that begins this process of promotion, comes from the Press Release that delivers the launch of any novel, any book, be it an eBook or a Trade Paperback. This Press Release must dance with excitement and information. And with the wonder of sweeping technology, world wide, Press Releases hold the greatest potential to deliver data on Ebooks and Print to every stream, tributary, and river leading to the open seas of the Book Selling Industry.
When a News Release is created for a novel, the very first and most important message belongs to the Subject Heading of the promotional email being send to booksellers and bookstores, of the Publisher’s and Author’s choosing. Remember, “The marketing world is your Oyster” and the scope of your promotion is only limited by the Publisher’s ability to deliver the publication of “any book”, through major distribution outlets world wide– Whether it be Print or Ebook distribution outlets.
The Subject Heading of the New Release must carry on the silent wings of Compelling Intrigue. If a publisher or author struggles to come up with, “snatching attention” in the subject heading, try using the voice of the story within the storytelling, to reach out. A marketer must gain the attention of the Book Buyer or Bookseller, with a flashing glance. An example of a snatching subject heading: New Release: Lightning Strikes at the Devil!
There would not be too many Book Buyers of Booksellers who would fail to hesitate and scan for further information. Follow this “snatching” subject heading with the explosion of thunder from the first paragraph. Singe the tail of the devil with unleashing information. Keep your paragraphs short throughout the Press Release– one or two sentences. Send in word format, not HTML. Use Verdana font: Pt 10.
For the New Release data: Make sure you have, major distribution outlets listed; ISBN number; Availability; Price; Genre; Blurb (under fifty words); One review– Short and sweet, two or three sentences at most, under fifty words; A fleeting message from the author– Again, under fifty words; Full Publisher contact information; Full Author contact information.
Under the signature lines place the book cover image– within the email. To do this place the cursor below the signature lines then go to “Insert”. Hit the “Picture” listing. A command box will emerge. Browse files and folders to find the saved jpg image of the book cover– Make sure this image is no more than 80kb or it will become cumbersome to send emails. Do not include an attachment file of the book cover image, as the email is likely to be cast aside in 90% of cases. Under no circumstances allow your subject heading to appear as SPAM.
One of the secrets, to reaching Booksellers and Bookstore Buyers: Send individual emails, with the title of the Bookseller or Bookstore you are sending too at the beginning of the email. Yes, this takes time, but it takes far more time to create a novel, submit to a publisher, and wait for publication to emerge. The time it takes to do this, is worth the effort. Human Nature forever craves courtesy and respect. If this courtesy is delivered to Booksellers and Bookstore Buyers the chances of success are heightened when it comes to consideration on ordering..
The World of promotion is your oyster, it is up to Publishers and Authors to form the pearl within.
