Out-of-control Russian spacecraft crashes safely in the Pacific Ocean

The out-of-control Russian spacecraft that last week failed to dock with the International Space Station has safely crashed back to Earth. NASA and Russian space agency Roscosmos report that Progress 59, which launched on April 27th on a mission to take supplies to the ISS, re-entered Earth’s atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean at 10:04PM ET last night.


NASA footage showed Progress 59 spinning in space after an apparently successful launch from Kazakhstan. In a statement, the US space agency said the craft was not carrying any critical supplies and that both Russian and American sides of the ISS were “adequately supplied well beyond the next planned resupply flight.” Around a ton of material was projected to survive re-entry into the…
