High Point University Now Offers Thousands Of Pieces Of Digital Content From North Carolina Publishers And More Through Biblioboard

High Point University now offers free access to BiblioBoard Library to its faculty as well as undergraduate and graduate students. A single login provides easy access to thousands of eBooks and primary source materials through all major web browsers and native apps on the iPad®, iPad® mini, Kindle Fire HD®, Galaxy Tab®, Nexus® and more.

BiblioBoard Library is an easy-to-use platform that allows students to explore high-quality content in a digital medium with an intuitive interface similar to the experience students have on a daily basis using other consumer products. Covering a wide range of topics including literature, philosophy, history, geography and science, BiblioBoard Library contains more than 400 thematic collections, which allow students to easily search and browse content.

High Point University also has access to the Home Grown eBook Collection through NC LIVE, a body of content from North Carolina’s statewide library consortium. NC LIVE’s project allows libraries throughout the state to acquire previously unavailable eBook titles at a lower price. The collection includes more than 1,200 eBooks from North Carolina publishers, including Algonquin Books, UNC Press, Crossroad Press, McFarland, Ingalls Publishing, Gryphon House, Press 53 and John F. Blair Publisher. The books range in theme from regional history and culture to fictional mystery-thrillers.

Mitchell Davis, founder and Chief Business Officer of BiblioLabs, believes this is a great opportunity for High Point University to enhance students’ academic experience. “BiblioBoard gives High Point a scholastic advantage by providing students easy access to useful materials for the demanding academic world,” says Davis.

In addition, professors and students alike will be able to make their own digital collections available on BiblioBoard Library. Using BiblioBoard Creator, a dynamic tool that allows users to create their own multimedia collections for BiblioBoard Library, High Point University will extend personalized digital collections to its users. Professors can take advantage of BiblioBoard Creator to develop distinct personalized collections related to their subjects by utilizing public domain content available on BiblioBoard Library or by uploading their own media.

One English class that focuses on women in literature has already taken advantage of BiblioBoard Creator. Professors graded their students on collections they created about women’s roles in the Middle Ages. The collection’s topics ranged from “Chivalry in Medieval Times” to “Women and Courtly Love” and included various texts, plays, paintings and primary source letters. Students put together each distinct collection using public domain content already available on BiblioBoard Library.

Media and Digital Resource Librarian at High Point University, Sam Harlow, uses BiblioBoard Library to teach students about what she calls “digital literacy.” “I am having classes use BiblioBoard to publish digital projects. For these projects, I train the students on metadata creation, uploading materials and the importance of copyright in digital media. We feel it’s a good lesson for students interested in continuing in the humanities or digital publishing,” says Harlow.

High Point University is in its second year subscribing to BiblioBoard.
